Part 2. In my first interview with Jeffrey in 2014, we focussed on the recent release of his book, “From Cancer Good Things Grow”, whose title describes quite a different take on the experience of cancer.
Diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Stage IV with bone marrow infiltration in 1999; with treatments he subsequently relapsed 4 times.
After his last relapse in 2006, although under pressure from friends to take the alternative medicine path; instead, a self-motivated Jeffrey started looking at innovative, emerging medical therapies.
He learned of an experimental treatment involving a personalised vaccine protocol. Jeffrey reasoned that it was feasible to have something good a personalised cancer vaccine created from something bad your cancer.
This one-of-a-kind vaccine re-educated his immune system so that it could identify and destroy his non-Hodgkins lymphoma cells. Today almost 11 years on his worst prognosis; Jeffrey is considered cured.
Note: the Grace Gawler Institute helps patients access (in Asia) improved versions of the vaccines used by Jeffrey these are more powerful, effective and have been producing positive outcomes in our patients for the last 3.5 years.
Jeffreys documented diagnosis is recorded as B cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma, follicular mixed small and large cell, Stage IV, with bcl-2 gene translocation, and splenic and bone marrow involvement.
However, there is more than meets the eye of being a survivor of such an advanced and aggressive form of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Therefore today I ask Jeffrey what are the ingredients that make up the cancer survivor recipe? Why does he believe he survived against the odds? Are survivor skills innate or can survivorship skills be learned?
As well as talking about the process of making cancer vaccines, in this interview we explore and discuss important principles for recovery: adaptation, perseverance, gratitude, surviving and thriving.
If you or someone you know is dealing with cancer and feeling hopeless and helpless then encourage them to listen to this inspiring interview.
