Dr Julie Crews is an Ethicist who lives in Perth, Western Australia. We often hear about Medical Ethics, but the topic we are discussing today is the role of Cancer Patient Ethics; a topic critical to cancer patient’s survival yet little discussed in cancer circles. As an ethicist, integrity and honest values are really important to Dr Julie. She writes, ‘When people are diagnosed with a life threatening illness they are extremely vulnerable. Its unfortunate but there are many people claiming quick fixes for cancer preying on the fears and vulnerability of patients.’ Dr Julie is so passionate about this subject, she is running for LIFE in the 2013 New York Marathon to get the message out about the New Culture of Survivorship. Her slogan, CANCER IS A MARATHON NOT A SPRINT describes what she has seen with friends diagnosed with cancer. ‘It is their courage in surviving the marathon that is cancer, which will get me over the line in NY’. http://gracegawlerinstitutefundraiser.com
